With an existing house situated close to the Wainui Reserve in Raglan, the owner wanted to provide a small travellers accommodation unit.
Simple materials were used to keep in context with both the surroundings and the existing dwelling. The unit was located to provide its own private outlook to the reserve land, maintaining privacy to the house & its occupants. This also worked for the solar orientation of the unit, allowing passive solar design principles to be utilised. While small in foot print, vertical height within the living area gives a feeling of spaciousness. Exposed black roof trusses within this space add some dramatic contrast to the space.
